Card Dealing in a Poker Game. In poker games that use cards that are then evenly distributed to each player, a 'deal' is an act of such distribution. Dealing is made either by clockwise motion or by a counterclockwise one. Does the Image spin clockwise or counterclockwise? Most of us would see the image turning anti-clockwise. If CLOCKWISE, then you use more of the RIGHT SIDE of the brain and vice versa. Most of us would see the dancer turning ANTI-CLOCKWISE though you can try to focus and change the direction; see if you can do it. LEFT BRAIN FUNCTIONS uses logic.

The game is dealt and played counter-clockwise. As in Whisky Poker, the dealer deals a 5-card hand to each player and a spare hand of 5 cards. The play begins with the player to dealer's right. The phases of play and options are exactly as in Whisky Poker. Favorite Answer Clockwise is just like a clock. Counter-clockwise moves in the direction opposite of what a clock would move. If you and a bunch of friends are standing in circle formation, then. I don't know, but to guess maybe that is Chinese style ?

It's actually not dealt counter-clockwise everywhere. I think everywhere I've played in the Midwest it's clockwise, and in Vegas it's counter-clockwise.
That totally doesn't answer your question though. Sorry.

It's clockwise here in MN. There are other inconsistencies with PGP that don't happen in other games, too. Sometimes the dealer is 1 and sometimes the dealer is 7.

This is a good question that PaiGowDan probably knows the answer to and it drives me nuts everytime I watch the game but why in the world is PaiGow Poker dealt counter-clockwise from third base to first? Now I know third base does not always get the first set of cards, but in all the places I have been the game is dealt this way and was curious to know why. In all other poker based games and blackjack the deal goes clockwise except Pai Gow.
My best guess is because Pai Gow (tiles) is dealt counterclockwise. Moreover, the tiles are dealt from the rightmost stack and moving leftwards (from the dealer's perspective). It could obviously go either way, and apparently does in the card (poker) version.

In pai gow tiles, the house (when banking) arranges the tiles in a horizontal row, four tiles high and eight tiles long. The dealer distributes tiles from the rightmost stack first, working right-to-left, so a counterclockwise distribution is most comfortable. When PGP was introduced in casinos, most of the dealers who dealt it had been transplanted from pai gow tiles games.
Of course, there could also be some cultural artifact/superstition that says to deal the tiles any other way but counterclockwise would offend the Celestial Gambling Dragon and bring misfortune on the offender for 3,333 years,

Maybe it originated south of the equator and then caught on in China? (Kinda of the same way that toilet water goes the other way in the Southern Hemisphere.)
